Heritage Lottery Fund award

The Kerridge Ridge and Ingersley Vale Countryside and Heritage Project (KRIV) has received a major boost thanks to a grant of £788,483 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The award is a major boost to the £1.1 million, five year scheme to restore and preserve the heritage features and natural habitat in the Kerridge Ridge and Ingersley Vale area, a wonderful area of secluded countryside between Bollington and Rainow, near Macclesfield.

The award is the culmination of many years of hard work. The past two years have been spent researching the heritage significance of the area and working with local landowners to identify work that may conserve and enhance the historical and natural features.

Regional first

The project is the first in the North West to receive funding under the HLF's Landscape Partnership Scheme. The project has enjoyed strong support from the local communities of Bollington and Rainow as well as advice and guidance from Groundwork Macclesfield and Vale Royal.

Tony Jones, Heritage Lottery Fund Regional Manager for the North West said: "This distinctive landscape has a wealth of industrial and natural heritage that is very special to the area. It is great news that we are supporting a scheme that helps so many people come together to help conserve it for future generations to explore."

Graham Barrow, chairman of the KRIV Steering Group, said: "We are delighted that the HLF has approved this project. We hope that we can show how over £1 million of public money can make a real difference to a special area of countryside that is so rich in heritage features and of potentially great educational value for schools and the general public."
